Are you an Early Childhood Teacher passionate about supporting the inclusion of children who have additional needs? 

  • Support Early Years staff in identifying needs of children attending programs and refer children as required to specialist agencies. 
  • Develop strong linkages with community and specialist agencies to increase awareness of the Preschool Field Officer role. 
  • Full time - Four month contract until the end of April 2019. 

Primary objective of the role:  

To support the inclusion of children who have additional needs in State Funded Kindergarten programs through support to services and families. 

Key Responsibilities provided but not limited to: 

  • Collaborate with Early Years staff, in consultation with the child's family and specialist workers to determine additional supports. 
  • Provide information to the families about children's services options and specific programs. 
  • Assist Early Years staff to support children with additional needs by helping them to identify and reduce barriers to access and develop inclusive practices. 
  • To assist families of children with additional needs at kindergarten through the provision of information about children's developmental stages and needs. 
  • Provide support, advice, resources and advocacy relating to the care, development and inclusion of all children. 

Qualifications and Experience Required

Essential: 

  • Relevant Tertiary Early Childhood Education qualification along with experience working with kindergartens, children and families with additional needs. 

Desirable: 

  • Five years experience in Early Childhood and Inclusion. 

Key Selection Criteria: 

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in assessment and referral of children with additional needs. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current early intervention and special education concepts and methods.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge, respect and value for the diversity of cultural parenting practices.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of the needs of a diverse community. 
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with families, kindergarten staff, referral agencies and specialists to define, discuss and resolve problems seeking expert guidance when appropriate. 
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and input data into systems. 
  • Current Victorian Driver's License, Police and working with Children's checks.
